Sabaton – Inmate 4859

Sabaton is a Swedish heavy metal band from Falun, active since 1999. Most of their songs are written about historical events such as war or heroism.

The dawn of century, a boy born by a lake
Resettled from Karelia’s plains
Grown to a man in exile as the great war came
Unleashed it’s shadow on his world

Oh, no
Oh, no
Who knows his name?

Inmate in hell or a hero imprisoned?
Soldier in Auschwitz, who knows his name?
Locked in a cell, waging war from the prison
Hiding in Auschwitz, who hides behind 4859?

Outside help never came, decided to break free
The end of april -43,
Join the uprising, fight on the streets while hiding his rank
Takes command all while serving his country in need.

Sent to a prison, where the heroes are judged as traitors
Accused of treason by his own
Sentenced by countrymen under pressure of foreign influence
Men he once fought to free

Oh, no
Oh, no
We know his name!

Inmate in hell or a hero imprisoned?
Soldier in Auschwitz, we know his name!
Locked in a cell, waging war from the prison
Hiding in Auschwitz, he hides behind 4859!

White eagle
Blood of Heroes
In Heaven

Forever
Rest in Heaven
True Hero

Music: Brodén / Lyrics: Brodén / Sundström

As I don’t know of a good live recording, here’s some background info to the song from Sabaton.

Avatar – Let Us Die

Avatar is a Swedish heavy metal band, formed in Gothenburg, in 2001.

Oh, what a man
Goes as far as he can
For country and king
Nothing will stop him
Oh, what a man
The master of war
He’s coming for more
He’s raping your children

Handsome and brave
He will dig out our grave
And all the living things
Dies as he’s watching
Handsome and brave
His weapon is rape
We cannot escape
He’s taking your children

What will they take
When everything’s lost?
What will they take
Oh, everything’s lost!

If you don’t want us to live
Let us die
There’s too much pain to take in

We’ve lost our homes
To the man on the throne
Victorious king
His gun does the talking
We’ve lost our homes
Abandon all hope
He’s making you choke
Enslaving your children

Sabaton – The Final Solution

Sabaton is a Swedish heavy metal band from Falun, active since 1999. Most of their songs are written about historical events such as war or heroism.

Country in depression
Nation in despair
One man seeking reasons everywhere
Growing hate and anger
The Fuhrer’s orders were precise
Who was to be blamed and pay the price!

Wicked propaganda
Turning neighbors into foes
Soldiers of the Third Reich searching homes
And then the former friends are watching
As they are rounded up one by one
Times of prosecutions has begun

Ever since it started
On Kristallnacht ’38
When liberty died
And truth was denied
Sent away on train on a one way trip to hell
Enter the gates Auschwitz awaits

When freedom burns
The final solution
Dreams fade away and all hope turns to dust
When millions burn
The curtain has fallen
Lost to the world as they perish in flames

There was a country in depression
There was a nation in despair
One man finding reasons everywhere
Then there was raising hate and anger
The Fuhrer’s orders still apply
Who was to be blamed and send to die

Ever since it started
On Kristallnacht ’38
When liberty died
And truth was denied
Sent away on train on a one way trip to hell
Enter the gates Auschwitz awaits

When freedom burns
The final solution
Dreams fade away and all hope turns to dust
When millions burn
The curtain has fallen
Lost to the world as they perish in flames

When freedom burns
The final solution
Dreams fade away and all hope turns to dust
When millions burn
The curtain has fallen
Lost to the world as they perish in flames

Music: Brodén / Lyrics: Brodén / Sundström

All Songs Arch Enemy

Arch Enemy – First Day In Hell

Arch Enemy is a Swedish melodic death metal band, from Halmstad, formed in 1995.

Torn from home
Sent down death’s railroad are we

When we wake up tomorrow
Will we still be wearing this curse?
Will we wake up tomorrow?
Which punishment is worse?

Day one:
No sun
Stripped of our names
Now we are merely numbers
Permanently inked in the flames

Our kind
Our existence lights the fire
Igniting hell on earth
Archangels bending crosses hooked

Innocent men, women, children
Sentenced before conviction
With golden stars to guide them
Their gavel is the end of a gun

Day two:
Lived through
More culprits arrive
Every cage so crowded
How will we survive through the night?

Our kind
Our existence lights the fire
Igniting hell on earth
Archangels bending crosses
Hooked

First day in hell

First day in hell
See the terror in abandoned gazes
Fear sunken eyes
Get the guards and walk a dozen paces
Saturnine

First day in hell
Incarcerated without reason
Doomed by blood
Anti-venom for a poisoned nation
Our birth right

Week five:
Alive
Soon out of time
After all that I’ve here witnessed
There’s no value in life

Our kind
Our existence lights the fire
Igniting hell on earth
Archangels bending crosses
Hooked

First day in hell

First week in hell
See the terror in abandoned gazes
Fear sunken eyes
Get the guards and walk a dozen paces
Saturnine

First month in hell
Incarcerated without reason
Doomed by blood
Anti-venom for a poisoned nation
Our birth right

Last day in hell

Revolver: Arch Enemy’s “First Day in Hell”: Lyric Dissector, Ep. 1

The vocalist was inspired to write the song by her grandparents, both of whom survived the Holocaust. “I heard these stories from them,” she explains, “and I thought it was about time to just take this personal weight that I had in this historic event and translate it into a song.”

For more in depth background information on the Holocaust, I would suggest heading to Yad Vashem – The World Holocaust Remembrance Center.

Yad Vashem (Hebrew: יָד וַשֵׁם‎; literally, “a monument and a name”), established in 1953, is Israel’s official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust, located on the western slope of Mount Herzl in western Jerusalem, Israel.

All Songs Delain

Delain – We Are The Others

Delain are a Dutch symphonic metal band formed in 2002 by former Within Temptation keyboardist Martijn Westerholt and singer Charlotte Wessels. The name of the band comes from the Kingdom of Delain in Stephen King’s novel, The Eyes of the Dragon.

[Verse:]
I’m walking with Sophie tonight
She lives in the air that I breathe
I can’t get it out of my mind
How you were left to bleed
Was it how you dressed?
Or how you act?
I can’t believe
How they could act
So violently, without regret
Well we will not forget

[Chorus:]
We are the others
We are the cast-out
We’re the outsiders
But you can’t hide us
We are the others
We are the cast-outs
You’re not out there on your own
If you feel mistreated
Torn and cheated
You are not alone
We are the others
(We are the others)

[Verse:]
As simple as air in your lungs
As simple as words on your lips
And no one should take that away
No one should argue this
Now with our heads up high
We’ll carry on
And carry out
That we won’t let them get us down
Or wear us out
‘Cause we are not alone…

[Chorus:]
We are the others
We are the cast-out
We’re the outsiders
But you can’t hide us
We are the others
We are the cast-outs
You’re not out there on your own
If you feel mistreated
Torn and cheated
You are not alone
We are the others
(We are the others)

[Bridge:]
Normal is not the norm
It’s just a uniform
(We are the others)
Forget about the norms
(We’re the outsiders)
Take off your uniform
(We are the others)
We are all beautiful
(We are the others)

[Chorus:]
We are the others
We are the cast-outs
We’re the outsiders
But you can’t hide us
We are the others
We are the cast-outs
You’re not out there on your own
If you feel mistreated
Torn and cheated
You are not alone
We are the others
(We are the others)
We are the others
(We are the others)
We are the others…
